Buried her in the old churchyard.
Had to sell my soul just to buy a plot.
The work was hard and the pay was bad
and I'll be gone tomorrow, gone for good.

Watched her body as it fell to rest
I was already gone to the Golden Coast.
Recalled one day when she said, "Boy-
stick with the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost."

It's been six years since I've been home-
Where I learned everything that I used to know.
All I found was a churchyard grave;
grass was overgrown with a hole in my name.

God sent down his thunderous call
reminded me of my great fall.
I pulled down my father's hat-
covered my heart from the memory of my past
